Walking & Cycling.
Oakley is ideally located to explore the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire and Mid Wales. Only a short distance from both Offa’s Dyke and the Kerry Ridgway both national trails. There are numerous public footpaths with walks to cater for all levels from a gentle stroll to a more challenging hike but all benefiting from the same wonderful views, tranquillity and clean fresh air.

We are located on Route 44, national cycle trail, also known as the Six Castles Cycleway, which starts in Shrewsbury and finishes in Leominster. Take on the whole route or just take in part. The quiet country roads and lanes also provide excellent cycling.

Places to Visit
The small historic market towns of Bishops Castle and Montgomery offer a mix of interesting old buildings, cobbled streets and independent retailers, pubs and tea rooms. Also within easy reach is Ludlow with its medieval castle, fine food outlets and restaurants. Its annual festivals include the Ludlow Food Festival in September which is well worth a visit. Also spend a day exploring Shrewsbury, the birth place of Charles Darwin. Its black and white timber buildings and cobbled squares and alleyways have a rich mix of shops, pubs and restaurants.

Acton Scott Estate near Church Stretton has an 18th Century working farm museum and was featured on the BBC series Escape in Time and Victorian Farm. Also visit the birth place of our industrial revolution at Ironbridge where there are ten museums each focusing on different elements. Blist Hill Victorian Town has period costumed staff giving you an insight into life in a Victorian town. Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre in Craven Arms is the place to go if you want to find out about the local history and heritage of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which includes the Long Mynd and Stiperstones.

Powis Castle near Welshpool is a prized National Trust property with a superb collection of treasures from India and its world famous landscaped gardens. For garden lovers there are also several independent garden centres locally.
